All generic domain name extensions and certain country-code ones support a security lock feature whose purpose is to impede unapproved transfers of existing domains. Many domain name registry organizations that manage ccTLDs that do not support this feature are in the process of introducing it for greater security and for the convenience of the domain name owners. A domain can be transferred only on the condition that it is unlocked and only a registrant who has access to the account with the current domain name registrar can accomplish that. New domain names are registered with the lock feature activated on purpose, so as to block any unsolicited transfer attempts. The lock option is among the safety measures for regulating the transfer of active domain names between domain name registrars that have been introduced over the years.

Registrar Lock in Shared Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain registered through us is remarkably easy. This can be achieved through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with our shared hosting, and will require literally two clicks. All your domains will be shown in alphabetical order in the Registered Domains section of the Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you’ll notice a padlock-like symbol. Click on it once and you’ll see the present status of the domain name. Click again and you will change its status. The update will take effect momentarily without the need for you or for our company to do anything else for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup sites, so you can initiate the transfer process right away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

Locking or unlocking any domain name registered through us is extremely easy and can be achieved through the Hepsia Control Panel – the one via which you manage your semi-dedicated server. You’ll see all your domains in the Domain Manager section and the ones whose extensions support the registrar lock feature will have a padlock icon next to them. You can unlock any domain name by clicking on its icon and since the change will propagate instantaneously, you will be able to start the transfer procedure without having to wait for the lock status to be updated on WHOIS websites. If you change your mind and choose not to transfer the domain name away from us, locking it once again will be just as easy and will not require more than a couple of clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel.
