An Operating System is the software that interacts with the hardware of a computer system and works as the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, which includes peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it sends requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, hosting servers also feature an Operating System that acts as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you'll be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server plans feature three Linux releases that you can select from for the Operating System of your new web server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Apart from being 100 % free, the OSs are really stable and protected and the main reason to offer the 3 of them is to make sure that you will be able to run any app that you would like, because different pieces of software may have different requirements in terms of the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a vast community of web developers who have generated thousands of software packages that you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System which you pick, you will also be able to select between three different Control Panels to control your web hosting content. Needless to say, if you decide that you need another OS, we could always re-install the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the OS for max stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

In case you decide to get one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a larger choice regarding the system environment on your machine as different applications could have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and safe web hosting service. Based on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you have selected at first does not meet the requirements of the software that you want to run. We can also upgrade your OS routinely in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
